A 59-year-old security guard, Olaitan Matthew, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on suspicion of stealing.
The spokesperson of the Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development in a statement she issued on Wednesday.
According to Odutola, Matthew was arrested on January 15, 2025 at about 4:30am by the Anti-Crime Team of the Onipanu Division at Land Star Company in Tomori Estate, Animashaun Estate, Ota.
He was found in possession of an electric motor part, and he was unable to give satisfactory answers on how the machine got to his possession.
When he was further pressed, he said that they had been stolen from the very company he was employed to protect.

During questioning, he admitted to the crime, explaining that he had been taking parts and machinery from the company while it was temporarily halted in production.
Odutola, a Chief Superintendent of Police added: “An investigation is currently underway to recover additional stolen items from the aforementioned factory.”
