Non Governmental Organisations under the aegis of the Coalition of Human Rights Actors in Niger State have called for proper screening of groups that pose themselves as NGOs, adding that they are fraudsters whose impacts are not felt in the society.
The Public Relations Officer of the Coalition and member of the Peace Advancement and Sustainable Development Initiative, Barrister Shehu Mohammed Aliyu, said most of these NGOs exist without office address.
According to him: “Because of their activities, the society is beginning to have a misconception about the genuine NGOs who are real.
“There are NGOs that are existing without office address and we want total abolishing of such group.
“At the moment, the various coalitions across the country are trying to put up a constitution that will guide us and after which we will begin to do categorisation.”
Shehu also said that there are NGOs that are not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, but are performing rightly while some who are registered don’t even have office address, adding: “Their impact are not felt, nobody sees or hears of their activities.”
