Many participants at the 24th edition of the Nigerian University Games in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Saturday visited souvenir stands to make last minutes purchases, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
NAN correspondent at the Obafemi Awolowo University, venue of the games, on Saturday observed that athletes and officials had been moving round the University to pick memorabilia.
It was also noted that there was an increase in the number of stands of salesmen marketing various items.
NUGA officials, athletes and fans were spotted donning different NUGA 2014-branded hats.
Olatunde Oladeji, an official form Oyo State, said that it was his “style to buy things that will make to him remember visits to interesting places.”
Oladeji noted that he was interested in going home with items with the picture of the popular “Ori-Olokun” burst, adding: “Ori-Olokun burst is a symbol of ancient arts in Ile-Ife, Osun.”
Toun Adeogun from Ogun State said that she had already purchased fabrics, hats and T-shirts to remember the NUGA.
Lovelyn Amadi, who traded in almanac, said that the games afforded her the opportunity to make brisk business.
Amadi said: “I printed quite some number of calendars with NUGA pictures to sell to interested persons.”
NAN reports that many students had also rushed to open accounts at a bank.
The account opening slip was said to serve as gate pass at the musical show at the University’s Amphitheatre on Saturday night.
