2015: Pressure mounts on Obielum to succeed Uduaghan

Prominent politicians across the three senatorial districts of Delta State are now mounting pressure on Chief Godswill Obielum to gird his loins for the race to succeed Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, come 2015.
Obielum, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, contested the party’s primary election in 2007 with eleven others, including the incumbent governor, but lost.
Over four political pressure groups across the district, including the Delta Progressive Movement, Ika South Local Government Chapter, and the Anioma Agenda, in support of an indigene of Anioma for governor in 2015, have either thrown their weight behind him or consulted him on the next line of action.
At a recent meeting of DPM in Abavo axis of the state, Chief Mike Eku, who boldly campaigned for the emergence of Obielum as the Governor of Delta State in 2015, said: “As a politician, as a Deltan, I have seen that Chief Obielum is a credible and matured person to govern Delta State and we want him to contest for the position, which he vied for in 2007.
“Since 2007, Chief Obielum has been involved in the building of our party, the Peoples Democratic Party.
“He has been involved in the development of our state and despite what happened in 2007, we have not seen any iota of desperation in him.
“He is matured and organized and capable of leading our state in 2015.”
Eku hinted that notable politicians in Ika South Local Government Area of the state have started to work for Obielum’s emergence as the candidate of the party secretly.
He said: “He (Obielum) has no option than to come out to contest for the governorship position.
“He is a nice man.
“Very intelligent and with his security background, he is an asset to our state.”
Corroborating Eku at the enlarged meeting, Franca Ojebor, who noted that the DPM is made up of people of like minds, progressive people, who believe that the right person like Obielum should occupy a place a pride as governor of Delta State on the PDP platform, said membership of the group is open to lovers of truth and uprightness.
Ojebor said: “Everyday, our membership is increasing because Obielum, a good product to market, is being pictured.
“There is no ward or village in the state that his good works have not been felt either through his personal attention or through the Obielum Foundation.
“I join in the call for Chief Obielum to contest for the governorship position of our state and I can tell you that most Deltans are calling on him to contest for the position and his emergence as governor will give a boost to our party, the PDP and our great state, Delta.”
