The Lagos State Police Command has said that it was yet to have in its custody a dispatch rider reported to have been caught with a child in his courier box in Sangotedo area of Lekki.
The spokesman of the Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the development in a statement he issued on Saturday.
A dispatch rider, who was beaten by an angry mob in the early hours of Saturday, was accused of having a child in his courier box.
Sandwiched between an okada rider and a man bearing the baby, they were said to be heading for a police station to report the incident.
Some persons in the video were heard saying the dispatch rider should not be allowed to escape as they headed to the police station.
However, several hours after the video went viral, Ajisebutu said the case was yet to be reported at any station in the state.
He said the Command’s Commissioner, Abiodun Alabi, has directed that the dispatch rider must be fished out.
He said: “The command wishes to inform the public that the incident said to have taken place in Sangotedo area, Lekki, was not reported at to any police station to enable the police take appropriate actions.
“Notwithstanding that the incident was not reported, the Commissioner of Police has directed that efforts should be intensified to locate the whereabouts of the alleged dispatch rider and the parents or guardians of the child to enable the police investigate the incident.”
