Water Resources Minister steps up hand washing campaign

The Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Reng Ochekpe, has directed the National Task Group on Sanitation to step up hand washing campaign as a major way to prevent the spread of Ebola disease in Nigeria.
The Minister made this known at the joint emergency meeting of the National Task Group on Sanitation on Friday in Abuja.
Ochekpe said the current phase of the campaign would begin at Jabi Motor Park and Wuse Market, both in the Federal Capital Territory, abuja on Monday and later will be taken to the states.
The Minister, who commended President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and other agencies for the quick response in tackling the spread of the disease, also thanked the members of the team for coming to the meeting, adding that each one has the responsibility to ensure that the public has proper information that would halt the spread of the disease in Nigeria.
The Chairman National Task Group and Director of Water Quality Control and Sanitation of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Engr. Samuel Ome, said that washing of hands with soap and running water was very essential to curtail the spread of the Ebola virus.
