Uwazuruike postpones group’s prayers, elections indefinitely

The Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) on Monday announced the indefinite postponement of its proposed prayer, fasting and elections slated for Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Its leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, told newsmen in Owerri that the session was postponed to make adequate consultations.
“We have to make adequate consultations and preparation before the next date because the event will be made public,” Uwazuruike said.
He said that more than 100 clergymen from the South East and South South were expected at the session organized by the splinter groups of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra.
Uwazuruike said the exercise had been put on hold to enable the leaders to take necessary decisions before a new date for both the prayers and elections would be announced.
The leader regretted the inconvenience the sudden change in date would cause the members of the group and their guests.
He said the theme of the prayer was still: “Give us Biafra,” while Apostle Gregory Ashiegbu would anchor the prayer.
Uwazuruike said the elections into BIM positions would be different from the elections recently conducted in Nigeria.
According to him, it will be an open ballot system unlike the closed ballot system.
The three-day prayer and fasting was scheduled to commence January 12, while February 22 was slated for the elections.
The leaders of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, Asari Dokubo, and Dr. Fredrick Fasheun, the founder of the Oodua People’s Congress, were expected at the events.
