Utomi, civil society leaders of thought intervene in southern Kaduna crisis

A broad Civil Society network in Nigeria, the Civil Society Conflicts Intervention Team, has initiated an all inclusive mechanism of engaging the lingering southern Kaduna bloodletting and violence.
The new group of eminent leaders of thought in the Nigerian civil society is jointly led by Prof. Pat Utomi of the Nigeria Political Summit Group and Prof. Jibo Ibrahim of the Centre for Democracy and Development.
According to a statement issued by the Head of the Team’s Publicity, Mallam Naseer Kura, on Sunday in Abuja, the team, which was inaugurated on Thursday in Abuja, is set to interface with the Nigerian Presidency, Governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State, the three senators from Kaduna State, the four peace initiatives working on the southern Kaduna crisis as well as eminent leaders of thought from southern Kaduna region among others
Some notable members of the team at the Thursday technical parley of the group included Utomi, who chaired the meeting; Charity Shekari; Prof. Kole Shettima; Bolanle Onagoruwa; Wakili Kadima, Engineer Janet Adeyemi; Bash Olasupo; and Secretary of the team, Veteran Olawale Okunniyi.
Kura said in the statement: “What is happening today in Southern Kaduna and other parts of Nigeria is quite heart rendering and worrisome and requires a collaborative effort of all stakeholders to bring to normalcy as expressed by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in his last visit to the Niger Delta
“Thus, we wish to call on all stakeholders and concerned parties in the southern Kaduna crisis to sheathe swords and embrace dialogue in the interest peace and progress of the state.”
