Tukur in valedictory NWC meeting

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, is at the moment holding what has been termed a valedictory meeting of the National Working Committee, The Eagle Online can report.
The meeting is ongoing at the National Secretariat of the party in Wadata House, Abuja.
As first exclusively reported by The Eagle Online at about 2am on Wednesday, Tukur agreed to resign as the national chairman of the PDP at the caucus meeting of the party held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He was initially said to have resisted the nudging of members of the caucus to resign so as not to be disgraced out.
After the initial resistance, the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who chaired the meeting, called for a 30 minutes break to allow those close to Tukur to prevail on him to resign so that he would not be forced out.
On resumption, Tukur was said to have indicated his readiness to leave.
He was then told to prepare his resignation letter and bring it along when coming to the Villa for the continuation of the caucus meeting on Wednesday (today).
A highly dependable source told The Eagle Online that the resignation letter would be up for consideration at the caucus meeting on Wednesday.
It is slated to commence at 6pm.
Once the letter is found satisfactory, the announcement of the exit of Tukur would be made at the National Executive Committee meeting scheduled to hold on Thursday.
The NWC meeting usually precedes that of the NEC.
As such insiders said that Tukur has told those attending the ongoing NWC meeting in Abuja that it would be his last as chairman.
The NWC is made up of elected officials of the party.
