Barely a week after releasing photos showing 62 victims in their captivity, terrorists who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train have freed Sadik, son of Northern Elders Forum, convener, Professor Ango Abdullahi.
A family member of the abducted train passengers confirmed that he was released on Friday after 31 days in captivity.
The Nation also gathered that ransom was paid before his release though the actual amount could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
According to him, Sadik was identified by friends and relations when the terrorists released pictures of the 62 abducted train passengers.
It was learnt the terrorists never knew they were keeping the son of the highly respected elder in the north before then.
The family member told The Nation: “You see, that’s why we are very careful now.
“Negotiations between the government and the terrorists for the release of our loved ones has reached an advanced stage.
“We don’t want to jeopardise the process now.
“We are sure the terrorists found out who Sadik was and later decided to negotiate for his freedom.”
Findings revealed Sadik was released after extensive negotiation, leading to payment of ransom last Friday.
He was said to have been reunited with the family.
Sadik is the only son between Prof. Abdullahi and his mother, late Hajiya Jummai Alhassan, a former Minister, popularly known as Mama Taraba.
It was gathered that he is undergoing a psychological rehabilitation in a private hospital.
As of the time of filing the report, there was no official reaction from the family or security agencies.
