The Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday called for criminalisation of vote-buying to stop the trend in the political system of the country.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Monday said cases of vote-buying was increasing in elections in the country because its administrative process could not be subverted.
They told News Agency of Nigeria in separate interviews on Monday in Abuja, that such proactive measures had become expedient following complaints the dimension vote-buying in elections had assumed.
The National Democratic Institute and the International Republican Institute have listed vote buying and insecurity as some of the possible disrupters of the 2019 general elections.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Sesugh Akume, in a statement in Abuja, said that what the world witnessed in Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti was a brazen ‘cash-for-votes’ exercise.
Despite the widespread peace that has so far been reported in most areas in Ekiti State in the ongoing governorship election, there have been reports of skirmishes in some areas and allegations of vote buying.
