Trump responded on Twitter to a study commissioned by the Puerto Rican government that estimated the death toll connected to Maria at 2,975.

Trump, who would overfly the island in a helicopter, said before departing the White House that conditions had begun to improve in Puerto Rico and commended the U.S. government’s efforts.

The Alitalia aircraft had been expected to fly over the U. S.  territory of Puerto Rico, but will instead shift south and cross the islands of Barbados, Grenada and Trinidad, a Vatican official said.
