In a statement in Benin on Saturday, the PDP state Publicity Secretary, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, asserted that Afegbua’s remarks formed part of what he called a “desperate smear campaign” aimed at discrediting the administration of former Gov. Godwin Obaseki.
They are calculated threats from someone who has never hidden his desire to destabilise Edo whenever power slips from his grip.
Okpebholo disclosed this when he led top officials of his government on an unscheduled visit to the premises of the Observer titles.
The former governor gave the advice in a statement by his spokesman, Crusoe Osagie, made available to newsmen on Thursday.
In a statement, Osagie lampooned the former Edo governor for making such remarks, considering that Okphebholo has only spent two weeks in office with no significant or developmental project initiated by him.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Obaseki ignored the three judges when he swore in five out of the eight recommended judges by NJC in May.
This comes shortly after his two-term tenure, which ended on November 11, 2024, with Governor Monday Okpebholo taking over.
The ex-governor did this as he made to hand over power to his successor, Monday Okpebholo, which was done on Tuesday in Benin.
Citing notable progress made by his regime in healthcare, education, agriculture and economic empowerment, he reiterated the need for continuity for the benefit of citizens.
This was contained in a statement by Chris Osa Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation on Tuesday in Benin.
According to the result declared on Sunday in Benin City, the state capital, the candidate of the APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo, polled a total of 30,780 votes in the LG, while Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party secured 24,938 votes.
He added that, “we don’t want to be taken back by some incompetent people. In fact, we have no reason to go back. So, vote for PDP, vote Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie.”
Obaseki revealed the cause of their fallout at Opujie Primary School, Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area.
Obaseki was accompanied by the party’s candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo and his running mate Osarodion Ogie Esq, and other top party chieftains.
Led by the Governor Godwin Obaseki, the fully packed township stadium, venue of the campaign, took the form of a carnival as party chieftains and supporters exhibited an uncommon enthusiasm and confidence about the coming election.
This was made known at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Edo Arena Wednesday.
The group, which made the call on Tuesday in Benin at a news conference, gave Obaseki seven days to publish the apology.
In a statement by Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser on Media Project to the governor, the appointment is with immediate effect.
Onwenu reportedly died on Tuesday night at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after collapsing at the birthday party of Stella Okoli.
