Synagogue: 40 dead, 130 rescued

The National Emergency Management Agency on Sunday said that 40 dead bodies had been recovered, while 130 people trapped in the collapsed Synagogue Church of All Nations building had so far been rescued.
The Public Relations Officer of NEMA for the South West, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
Farinloye said that 80 per cent of those rescued from the collapsed building were women.
He said that two female children, aged four and eight, were among those rescued.
According to him, the continued rescue exercise has increased the number of dead persons from 17 to 40.
A six-storey building belonging to the SCOAN, Ikotun, Lagos collapsed on September 12.
The pastor of the church, Temitope Joshua, attributed the cause of the collapse to a mysterious helicopter flying repeatedly over the building.
Joshua showed a three-minute video clip to journalists in Lagos on September 13, claiming the helicopter might have been responsible for the collapse of the six-storey guest house.
