Former Super Eagles Coach, Samson Siasia, has said that the ultimate ambition of the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, for now is to see the Super Eagles
qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Siasia said: “Hon. Elegbeleye is a close friend and brother and one thing that endears him to me is his great passion for sports and football in particular.
“He disclosed recently to me that one of his greatest wishes for now is to see the Super Eagles qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and he is ready to do anything that will make that dream come true.”
Siasia, however, threw his weight behind the DG NSC.
He said: “Hon. Elegbeleye’s tenure as the Director General of the National Sports
Commission will surely be a huge success because of his passion for sports.
“He is emotionally attached to sports.
“He is humble and kind hearted and I can only wish him well in his new position.”
Siasia’s former Super Eagles teammate, Ben Iroha, also supported his friend’s claims and believes in Elegbeleye’s administrative savvy but
charged the DG of the NSC to commence immediate preparations for the Brazil 2016 Olympics.
Iroha said: “My advice to Hon. Elegbeleye is to do all he could to improve sports generally in the country.
“In fact, he should ensure that the NSC starts preparations for the 2016 Olympic Games now.
‘America commenced preparations for the 2016 Olympic Games the second
day the 2012 London Olympics was rounded off.
“Hon. Elegbeleye should also work hard to make sports very attractive and rewarding in
the country so that our athletes would stop changing citizenship and representing European countries.
“I know he can do this because he loves sports so much and he loves soccer to death.
“So, he is a good choice from the Presidency.
“He is energetic, straightforward, loves people so much and listens to people
and takes good advices too.
“He is definitely going to do a good job at the National Sports Commission.
“He will be a success.”
