Senator Solomon empowers 382 youths

Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon on Monday admonished the youth in the country to acquire skills as a way out of unemployment.
Solomon, who represents Lagos West Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the upper house, spoke at a town hall meeting he organised in Lagos.
He said: “Nigeria has so many unemployable youths because they lack vocational skills.
“When people get skills, they have everything they need to start and stand in life.”
The senator said that no government could single-handedly employ everyone that was seeking employment, but much could be done to empower youths with skills.
Solomon, who empowered 382 youths with tools for barbing, shoemaking, fashion designing, bead making, make-up, photography and cake making at the event, said he would continue to do more.
“I intend to train and empower more of our youth in the second quarter of the year,” he said.
The youths from the zone also received certificates attesting that they had acquired training in those areas.
They also received take-off grants from the senator to assist them to become self-reliant.
Solomon urged them to make the best use of the skills they had acquired.
“There are between 150 million and 180 million people in Nigeria. There will always be market for every skill,” he said.
The Lagos State Interim Chairman of the APC, Chief Henry Ajomale, who was also at the event, commended the senator for supporting his constituents.
Ajomale said the senator had ploughed back to the society by spending millions of naira to train and empower the beneficiaries.
“This scheme and acquisition project is laudable and a very good idea conceived for humanity,” he said.
Ajomale urged the beneficiaries to value the sacrifice made by the senator to give them a new lease of life.
One of the recipients, Jamiu Odekunle, who spoke on behalf of others, commended the senator for the gesture and assured him that they would not disappoint him.
