The Senate on Tuesday rescheduled the investigation of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, over alleged award of $25 billion contracts without due process.
The investigative hearing had been scheduled for this week Tuesday by the Ad-hoc Committee mandated to look into the allegation.
However, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary session, made the announcement that the hearing has been postponed till next week Tuesday.
Although Ekweremadu did not give the reason for the sudden postponement of the investigative hearing, a source linked the postponement to a suit in court praying that the investigative hearing should be stopped.
The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, had in last week set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the allegation against Baru and directed that the report should be submitted in four weeks.
It could be recalled that the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, in a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, which was leaked to the press, alleged lack of due process in the award of contracts valued at over $25 billion by the NNPC.
