The management of Rangers International FC, Enugu has showered the players and technical crew of the club with N1.5 million to boost their current performance in the Nigerian Premier Football League.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Rangers are currently topping the NPFL table with 48 points from 28 matches of which which it won 13, drew nine and lost six.
Rangers Media Director, Foster Chime, told NAN on Saturday in Enugu that the largesse was to redeem management board chairman’s financial promise.
The Chairman, Festus Onuh, had pledged the financial reward to the players and officials after the 1-1 draw against Enyimba FC of Aba on Sunday in Port-Harcourt.
Chime, who noted that Onuh since assuming the chairmanship of Rangers had been a financial pillar, disclosed that his largesse was also extended to some close fans of the club.
He said: “He (the chairman) has also promised more largesse to the players and technical crew in their remaining matches of the league at both home and away.
“Nobody has ever done this for the players for decades now.
“The players, officials and supporters of Rangers are grateful to Chief Onuh for his magnanimous disposition and financial support to the team.
“We call on other philanthropists and football lovers in and outside the state to emulate the shining example of the donor to ensure that Rangers FC win the 2016 league after 32 years.”
Meanwhile, the League Management Company has postponed the NPFL Match Day 29 encounter between Rangers and Lagos-based MFM FC, scheduled for August 6 at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
According to a letter from Salisu Abubakar, LMC’s Chief Operating Officer, the matches involving Rangers, Enyimba and Wikki Tourist are postponed.
Other clubs will have their matches played on August 6 at different centres, it said.
