Newly promoted Premier League side, Queens Park Rangers, have been heavily linked with a move for Nigerian defender, Kenneth Omeruo.
It was gathered that QPR boss, Harry Rednapp, wants the 20-year-old Chelsea player to bulk up his back-line ahead of the new season.
Steve Bruce is thought to be keeping an eye on the situation as he looks to strengthen his defence at Hull City, but promoted QPR have now reportedly joined the list of Omeruo admirers.
Rednapp is expected to confirm the signing of Rio Ferdinand imminently but is still on the lookout for another defender as he attempts to assemble a squad capable of staying in the Premier League.
It is thought Boro remain in the driving seat in the race to sign the Chelsea defender who was at his best for Nigeria at the just ended World Cup.
Aitor Karanka has repeatedly echoed his confidence that Omeruo would return to Boro on another loan deal and only last week the defender said he would like the opportunity of another season at the Riverside.
“My time at Middlesbrough was one of the best experiences I’ve had in football and I enjoyed every moment of my time at the club,” Omeruo said.
“The Boro fans are amazing and I was impressed with the support they showed the team every week.
“I would like to return to Boro on loan but it’s not in my hands.”
