Police arrest 7 suspected criminals in Gombe

The Police in Gombe have arrested seven persons suspected to have committed various offences in Gombe town.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gombe Command, Mr Fwaje Atajiri, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Thursday.
Atajiri said the first group of three persons was arrested for allegedly attacking a man and collecting three cell phones in Gombe town, recently.
He said the two other persons, who allegedly took part in the crime, were at large, and that the police were making efforts to arrest them.
The victim, Malam Lawan Saminu, who spoke to NAN at Gombe Divisional Police Office, said the suspects came with knives and cutlasses and asked him to give them money and other valuables, which he did.
According to Saminu, although he willingly gave them the valuables, one of them stabbed him with a knife, and he sustained an injury.
The victim said he treated himself and later reported the matter to the police who later arrested three of the hoodlums.
According to him, the second group of four persons was arrested for alleged drug offences at Pantami area of the state capital.
He said one of the suspects was a renowned drug dealer while the three were those who bought the drugs from him.
The PPRO said after preliminary investigations, the suspects would be handed over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution.
Fwaje said the police were trying to reach to two other persons accused of drug offences.
He advised members of the public to always provide information to the police on the whereabouts of criminals with a view to ridding the state of bad eggs.
“The public should also give us information about people who are jobless but are living in affluence so that we would reach out to such persons.
“Parents and guardians should also caution their wards and children to keep away from crimes as the law will catch up with anyone breaking the law,” he said.
NAN reports that 29 persons, suspected to be involved in criminal activities in the state, popularly known as “Kalare,” were arrested by the police in the state a fortnight ago.
