The All Progressives Congress in Jos North and Bassa Local Government Areas of Plateau State has faulted the composition of the leadership of House of Representatives Committees as announced by its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara.
In a statement issued on Monday in Jos and signed by their Chairmen, YaKubu Hassan and Alhassan Ayiki for Jos North and Bassa LGAs respectively, the party described Dogara’s action as a total disregard and unfaithful dealing for the APC on which platform he got the speakership and shared the chairmanship of the standing committees almost on equal basis with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
The statement decried at the formula that selected five chairmen of committees from Plateau State with APC getting one and PDP having four.
The statement reads: “Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency has the largest voter population in the state, which was won by the APC. Five chairmanship slots were given to Plateau, four chairmen and one vice chairman. To our greatest surprise PDP got four while APC got one, with three new members of PDP as against our returning members from the APC.
“If the speaker is claiming to be fair in his distribution among APC and PDP at the national level, what happened to Plateau State that has eight members – two APC and six PDP, five chairmanship positions were given, APC got only one, PDP got four. This is the first time our constituency is producing a two term member and from a ruling party, the APC.”
