Following the withdrawal of a former Governor of Bayelsa State,Timiriye Sylva, a former Governor of Edo State, Chief Odigie Oyegun, has been elected the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He takes over from Chief Bisi Akande, also a former Governor of Osun State.
The APC at its first national convention held at the Eagles Square, Abuja, elected the Interim National Secretary, Tijjani Tumsah, as the substantive National Secretary.
A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, announced the withdrawal of his main opposition, Alhaji Kassim Imam, from the race.
The Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed was returned unopposed as the substantive National Publicity Secretary.
Also, a former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, emerged unopposed as the Deputy National Chairman (South).
The Deputy National Chairman (North) is a former National Secretary of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Lawal Shuaibu, who was also returned unopposed.
Despite the fact that it was a convention of consensus, preceded by alignment and re-alignment as well as horse trading, delegates still voted to ratify the candidates for the various offices in line with INEC guideline.
