The Osun government says that 120 athletes and officials will feature in 15 sports at the upcoming National Youth Games, billed for the University of Ilorin in Kwara.
The state’s Commissioner for Sports, Biyi Odunlade, made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen on Friday in Abuja.
He named some of the sports as athletics, aquatics, ayo, canoeing and rowing, karate, kung fu, taekwondo, power lifting, weightlifting, boxing, volleyball and wrestling.
Odunlade said: “Our athletes will arrive Ilorin on September 7 for the event. Our state government has approved all the necessary materials financially to support the athletes for the 10 day-event.
“The state government is of the hope that the athletes and officials will be good ambassadors of our state.
“We expect our athletes to win medals through focus and determination in all their games so as make the state proud.”
Odunlade said that the state hoped that the competition would provide an avenue for youths to showcase their skills.
The fourth edition of the National Youth Games, which opened on September 7 is to end on September 17.
