The Unity Party of Nigeria said on Sunday that the Independent National Electoral Commission did a competent job in the conduct of Osun State governorship election.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Adedeji Salau, said in a statement in Abuja on Sunday that the outcome of the poll was a true reflection of the choice of the people.
Salau commended the electorate for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner during and after the election.
The UPN said the election had demonstrated that with adequate security, INEC was capable of being a fair umpire that could make the votes of the electorate count.
The statement said: “Our party admonishes politicians to always be fair in their assessment of a pre-election situation to avoid giving inflammable statements based on their perception.
“UPN believes in free education at all levels and free health services for the masses.”
While congratulating Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress for winning his reelection, the party enjoined him to provide free education and healthcare services for the people of the state in his second term.
On his part, the UPN’s National Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Sokoto, said on phone that the vote polled by the party in the state was an indication that the UPN was growing.
Sokoto said: “You know we (UPN) pulled out of the governorship race on August 6, but the people still gave us some votes.
“This shows that UPN is steadily growing as the party is enjoying widespread support in the country,” said Sokoto
