The Ogboru ruling house in Ile Ife, Osun State has appealed to the kingmakers to be guided by the respect for tradition, equity and fair play in the selection of a new Ooni of Ife.
The spokesperson for the family, Prince Adediran Adetipe, told newsmen during a press briefing in Ile Ife on Monday that the Osun State Government should assist the traditional institution in the state to ensure that the right person and ruling house emerges as the 51st Ooni of Ife.
The Ogboru ruling house is one of the four ruling houses expected to produce the successor to the deceased 50th Ooni, Okunade Sijuade, Olubuse II, who joined his ancestors last month.
The late Ooni not only superintended over remarkable socio-economic transformation but left behind a legacy of peace, stability, progress and unprecedented development, not only in Ile Ife, but in the entire Yoruba race nation both at home and in the diaspora.
Oba Sijuwade’s vision was extolled to the high heavens and there was the general acknowledgment that the sustenance of his legacies will be a very hard nut to crack.
The four ruling houses jostling to replace him are the Ogboru, Osinkola, Lafogido and the Giesi family.
Prince Adetipe disclosed that the Ogboru family has seven clans.
These are Molodo, Amodo, Alaka, Adejokun, Odogbon, Ooni/Ilare and Olubuse/Olodo.
According to him, the Adetipe family from the Amodo clan has already submitted an expression of interest by putting forward a generally accepted candidate to fill the vacant position of the Ooni of Ife.
He said that the immediate past Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, in 1980 had an agreement with the Giesi ruling house to trade their turn for the throne (and not on behalf of the entire Ogboru ruling house).
He added that Oba Sijuade’s predecessor, Oba Adesoji Aderemi, was from the Osinkola ruling house.
The Adetipe family hails from the Amodo clan of the Ogboru ruling house of the Ile Ife dynasty.
