The National Council of State meeting is underway at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.
But conspicuously absent from the all-important meeting is former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Former Head of State and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, led governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to the meeting.
Also in attendance are former Heads of State – Generals Yakubu, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar; former President Shehu Shagari; and former Head of the Interim National Government, Ernest Shonekan.
The National Council of State is chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Members are all former Heads of State, the Senate President, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the 36 state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
It is believed that the meeting will take briefing from the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on the preparations for the 2015 elections.
The APC also on Wednesday said the President may use the opportunity to secure a shift in the dates of the general election.
