NFF wanted to replace me with Zambia’s coach – Keshi

More facts have emerged on why the Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, resigned shortly after leading Nigeria to victory in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Available information said Keshi was told of plans by his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation, to replace him with Herve Renard, Zambia’s coach to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Although Keshi has since withdrawn the resignation letter, following the intervention of the Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the Nigerian coach lamented what he called the unprofessional conduct of the NFF members in South Africa.
Keshi was quoted as saying: “They (NFF) asked me if I was not watching the Zambian coach, Herve Renard, how he does his changes.
“The man they wanted to replace me with did not even qualify for quarter final.
“Against Ivory Coast, they never believed we could win.
“The man to replace me did not even qualify for next round.
“And now they are hailing me.
“NFF president had seen me the same day and said he believed in me but was giving the team secretary money for our trip back home.
“They had called the secretary a day before the match to buy tickets because we are playing Ivory Coast.”
