An Ikeja High Court in Lagos State on Tuesday adjourned further hearing in the case of a popular transporter, Bube Okorodudu, charged with N82.8 million fraud, tillJanuary 21, 2015.
The adjournment was necessitated by the absence of the trial judge, Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo, who was said to have travelled to Dubai, UAE for a Judges Conference.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Okorodudu and his transport firm, Cross Country Limited, were charged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
They were charged alongside another company, Car Link Limited, on eight counts bordering on conspiracy, stealing, forgery and uttering.
The EFCC had alleged that the defendants stole the money through the fraudulent sale of 17 units of Volkswagen transporter buses belonging to AG Moeller Limited and Adeloye Olukemi.
However, a lawyer from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, D.E. Kaswe, informed the court on October 22 that the AGF had taken over the case.
Kaswe said that the AGF took over the matter because there was another sister case at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
He said that the office wanted to examine the files and reach a conclusion on the direction the case should go.
Kaswe had, therefore, asked the court for an adjournment to enable the AGF office get the said files from the EFCC.
