Military establishes ‘structures’ to coordinate foreign, local troops operations in North East

Mike Omeri, the Coordinator of the National Information Centre, has said “structures” have been established to coordinate the foreign and Nigerian troops in the operations to search and rescue the missing Chibok schoolgirls.
Omeri, who is also the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, announced this at a news conference where he gave an update on the military operations in the North East on Tuesday in Abuja.
“The structures for the coordination of the activities of the allied countries’ forces in the ongoing search and rescue operations have been set up,” he said.
According to Omeri, the structure will take off any moment from now.
He also said that President Goodluck Jonathan had ordered the deployment of additional troops to reinforce the ongoing military operations in the zone.
The deployment, Omeri said, “comes in the wake of regional alliance to checkmate the activities of Boko Haram in the region and to strengthen the resolve to rescue the missing girls”.
Also speaking, Major General Chris Olukolade, the Director of Defence Information, said the structures also include the operations rooms where the activities of the troops would be coordinated.
Olukolade said that they were set up at “identified locations that are relevant to the ongoing operations”.
The spokespersons of the Department of State Services and the Police, Marilyn Ogar and CSP Frank Mba, attended the news conference.
