May Day: Osun Speaker, PDP hail workers’ perseverance

Najeem Salaam, Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, has commended workers in the state for their perseverance and commitment to the development of the state.
Salaam in a statement to felicitate with workers on 2018 Workers’ Day on Tuesday in Osogbo said that workers in the state deserved to be commended for braving the odd weather with government during the economic meltdown.
The Speaker commended the workers for their understanding with state government in the payment of ‘modulated salaries’ occasioned by economic meltdown in the country.
Salaam urged workers to continue to support the All Progressives Congress  led administration, which according to him had shown commitment to offset the outstanding of the modulated salaries.
He said: “Workers have paid their dues in the development of Osun and their perseverance has further guaranteed security of life and property.
“The next dispensation should be to consolidate on the gains in such a way that workers would begin to reap the gains in terms of steady pay and promotion in fulfilment of their careers.’’
Meanwhile, Osun Chairman of People’s Democratic Party, Soji Adagunodo, has assured workers in the state that the party would restore the independence and efficiency of the workforce in the state, if the party’s candidate is elected in the September 22 gubernatorial election.
Adagunodo, in his goodwill message to workers in Osogbo, said that it was painful that the APC led administration in the state had eroded the core values of the civil service in the state in the last seven years.
According to him, it is on record that in seven and half years of the PDP past administration in the state, workers had no cause to worry about promotion and welfare matters.
He said that promotion and welfare matters of the workforce in the state had become luxuries due to the insensitivity of the present government.
Adagunodo decried what he described as diversion of funds meant for payment of workers and retirees salaries and allowances by the state government.
The PDP chairman, however, urged leaders of the labour union to remain steadfast in hope that the party would once again come into office to restore their dignity and their rights to decent wages and better condition of service.
