An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, has sentenced a 20-year-old man, Toheeb Makinde, to six months imprisonment over burglary and theft.
Makinde, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge preferred against him.
The Magistrate, Olajumoke Somefun, in her ruling held that all the evidences presented before the court had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty of the offences, as charged.
Somefun consequently sentenced Makinde to six months in prison without an option of fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 7, 2021 at about 10:00 a.m. at Ogun Radio area in Abeokuta.
Shonibare argued that the convict entered and burgled the apartment of one Rasaq Olabode through the ceiling and stole a rechargeable table fan, DVD player, electrical wires and N120,000, among others.
He revealed that the convict was caught by the neigbours around while trying to escape with the stolen items on his Bajaj motorcycle.
The prosecutor said that he was, thereafter, apprehended and taken to Lafenwa police station where he was handed over to the police for further investigation.
The Prosecutor said the offences contravene Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006. NAN
