The police have arraigned a 48-year-old man before the Magistrates’ Court for crushing two siblings to death.
The accused, Boniface Onwuha, was arraigned along with his Volkswagen LT bus driver.
He was charged with reckless and dangerous driving.
The two siblings were Fausat Fadeke Ajisegiri and Lateef Dada Ajisegiri.
The police alleged that Onwuha committed the crime on November 30, 2014 at PWD Bus-Stop, Ikeja, Lagos State.
According to the prosecutor, Romanus Unuigbe, the accused committed an offence contrary to section 19 (1) and section 20 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.
The police further alleged that Onwuha, on the same date, time and place, being the driver of a Volkswagen LT bus, painted Lagos State commercial colour, with registration number KSF 127 XE, drove same in a reckless and dangerous manner, causing the death of one Fausat Fadeke Ajisegiri and Lateef Dada Ajisegiri.
The charge sheet reads in part: “That you, Boniface Onwuha, on the 30th day of November, 2014, at about 1805hrs at PWD Bus-Stop, Ikeja, in the Ikeja magisterial district, being the driver of a Volkswagen LT bus, Lagos State commercial colour, with registration number; KSF 127 XE drove same in a reckless and dangerous manner and caused the death of one Fausat Fadeke Ajisegiri and Lateef Dada Ajisegiri. Thereby, committing offences contrary to section 19(1) and section 20, of the road traffic law of Lagos State, 2012.”
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He was granted bail by the magistrate, Hamza Sule, in the sum of N200,000 with sureties.
The hearing was adjourned to February 20, 2015.
