Kenyan fans at the Moi International Stadium, Nairobi, Kenya attacked the Super Eagles players to protest the defeat of their national team, the Harambee Stars, in a 2014 World Cup qualifying tie.
The First Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Chief Mike Umeh, in a telephone chat informed that the irate fans were throwing missiles at the Nigerian team.
Umeh revealed: “Kenyan fans attacked the Super Eagles to protest the defeat.
“It took the intervention of the Kenyan police to protect the team from being humiliated.
“We were escorted to the hotel and assured that nothing will happen to the Eagles.”
Umeh also said the Federation was delighted that the senior national team picked the maximum three points at stake in the tie.
He said the victory would spur the Eagles to win their remaining games in the World Cup qualifier.
He said: “The Super Eagles have made Nigerians happy after failing to beat the Kenyans in Calabar.
“NFF would continue backing the team as they prosecute the remaining World Cup qualifier games against Namibia and Malawi.
“All the Super Eagles need are prayers and encouragement.”
