The National Union of Chemical Footwear Rubber, Leather And Non- Metallic Products Employees on Monday urged the Federal Government to invest recovered loot in infrastructure development.
The President of the union, Babatunde Olatunji, made the call at the opening ceremony of the 27th Annual Nationwide Industrial Relations Seminar of the union held in Ado-Ekiti.
The forum had as theme: “Building Human Resources Capacity for Effective Industrial Relations Practice in a Challenging Economy”.
He said the inadequacy of infrastructure such as electricity supply had made it difficult for goods produced in the country to compete effectively with imported ones.
Olatunji also said many companies were currently operating on diesel generators, adding that this often increases the cost of production.
He further urged government at all levels to tackle multiple taxation in order to boost the real sector.
The labour leader called on participants at the seminar to be actively involved so as to derive maximum benefits which could be used in their companies.
