Aniedi Ikoiwak, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State, has said the commission has not announced the result of the March 19 re-run election for Tai Local Government Area.
Ikoiwak told the News Agency of Nigeria by telephone that allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party that the commission had compiled and sent the result to its headquarter was false.
He said: “To the best of my knowledge, parties and their agents have been collecting certified copies of the election results, which they want to use at the election tribunal.
“Allegation made by the PDP is not true.
“I also want to state that Mrs. Amina Zakari, an INEC National Commissioner, mentioned in the allegation is presently out of the country.”
The Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Rivers State, Samuel Nwanosike, had told newsmen that the party had uncovered plans by INEC to announce the result of Tai Local Government Area.
Nwanosike said Tai was one of the eight local governments in the state re-run elections were cancelled.
Nwanosike also said Zakari was behind the plan to announce the result in favour of the All the Progressives House of Representatives candidate.
He said the party was worried about the development because election did not take place in the local government area.
