Gani Adams, Paul Obazele, Zack Orji, others demand sack of Jega, Jonathan’s reelection

Thousands of members and supporters of the Oodua Peoples Congress and Coalition of Concerned Nigerians on Monday held a rally advocating for the removal of the Chairman of the Independent Election Commission Chairman, Prof. Attaihiru Jega.
The basis of their demand, they said were the perceived irregularities in the commission in the build up to the 2015 general elections scheduled for March 28 and April 11.
The leaders of the organisations spoke on Monday at a rally in Lagos State.
The rally began at the old toll gate by 7UP on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The train moved from 7UP through Ikorodu Road to the National Stadium Roundabout on Western Avenue.
Those who led the march included the Founder of the OPC, Otunba Gani Adams; Segun Akanni; and veteran actors – Rachael Oniga, Zack Orji, Alex Osifo, Funke Adesiyan and Paul Obazele.
Addressing the crowd at the winding down spot, Adams stressed the need why Jega should be removed from office.
According to the OPC boss, over five million people are yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards in South West; over 2.5 million in the South South; and two million in the South East, while Jega claimed to have recorded 90 per cent distribution rate in the North despite the high level of insecurity there, especially in the North East.
Adams stated: “There is illegal registration of under age in the North.
“Registration of foreign nationals from Chad, Niger Republic and Cameroon and over one million of PVC have been recovered by security agents, yet Jega could not give an explanation.
“That is not all.
“It’s obvious that Prof. Jega is playing a well scripted Northern agenda as he has positioned Northerners to the sensitive INEC positions to actualise his hatched plot.
“Our argument as concerned Nigerians and non partisan people is that Jega must go on terminal leave and be replaced with a credible administrator before the general election.”
Orji, a Nollywood top actor, said he joined the rally to support President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election.
He said: “Others have done their eight years.
“I see no reason why some disgruntled elements are against his second term.
“He has performed well, so he is ripe for a second term.”
Prominent musicians such as Abass Akande Obesere, Pasuma Wonder and Osupa Saheed added fun and razzamatazz to the rally.
