In furtherance of its resolve to create the enabling environment that will boost Foreign Direct Investment into the country, the Federal Government on Thursday performed the ground breaking ceremony of the new Abuja national industrial park.
On completion, the park is expected to attract over $2 billion (about N316 billion) FDI into the Federal Capital City.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Namadi Sambo said the park will also boost establishment of small and medium scale industries in the territory.
Sambo said the project is in line with the Abuja master plan, as well as the Federal Government’s national implementation plan under Nigeria’s vision 20: 20:20.
Sambo spoke further: “This project, when completed, will provide further testimony to the success in the implementation of Federal Government transformation under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan.”
He commended the Minister of the FCT minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, for his level of ingenuity in ensuring wide spread infrastructural development in Abuja.
He said the thrust of the national implementation policy is to promote private sector investment through the creation of an enabling environment that will allow for substantial improvement in efficiency, productivity and profitability in manufacturing and other key sectors of the economy.
Sambo noted: “I was telling the minister that I am highly delighted and impressed with his performance because from the helicopter, right from the villa up to this location, it is project after project and project after project.
“The Federal Capital Territory has displayed high sense of responsibility and responsiveness in the implementation of the transformation agenda.
“It shows that lands such as this have built in value addition to the nation’s developmental stride in terms of infrastructure provision, wealth creation and employment generation.”
In his remarks, Mohammed had earlier said 250 hectares of land have been allocated to the Abuja national industrial park that will be private sector driven.
He said the company handling the project is expected to provide integrated infrastructure worth $200 million, attract competent industrialists and manufacturers into the park.
Infrastructure to be provided include 24km of road network, 10.4km of clean water network, 8.6km of electrical network, 9.6km sewage network, 9.6km of rain water drains and 29km of telecommunication network.
The provision of the 250 hectare land space has been done in line with the new land swap policy thrust of the FCT administration.
