Former Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dapo Lam Adesina, has been sued for N1 billion by a veteran sports journalist and hotelier, Alhaji Raheem Olatunji, popularly known as Socrates.
According to Alhaji Olatunji, the former commissioner defamed his character by his remarks on air on October 26, 2013 at 9am on an Ibadan, Oyo State-based radio station, SplashFM 105.50, during a programme, VOICES, presented by Edmund Obilo.
He claimed that Adesina’s statements on air caused a lot of embarrassment for him, his immediate family, friends and staff in the eyes of the public.
Olatunji said that the former sports commissioner stated on the programme that he (Olatunji) brought all documents that were not signed by any Shooting Stars Sports Club official to demand for money from government.
He added that Adesina, who claimed that the documents were not signed in August 2011 on the said radio, paid part payment of the money, N1 million on October 5, 2011.
He said he was now surprised that Adesina could go on air to call him a fraudster in the public, especially on SplashFM 105:50.
The former commissioner was served the letter of the law suit on November 7, 2013 at his Alalubosa, GRA residence off Raphia Avenue, on Citrus Drive, by Mayowa B. Olayiwola of Taiwo Ilori-Oladele and Company, the solicitors and advocates of Olatunji, who is the Chairman/CEO of Socrates Allsports Communications Limited and Socrates Hotels, Ibadan.
