Edo deputy speaker impeached in Government House old chamber

The Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Festus Ebea, has been impeached.
Ebea was impeached for alleged misconduct and misdemeanour.
He was impeached by 15 lawmakers, including the Speaker of the House, Hon. Uyi Igbe, at a plenary at an old chamber located in the Government House, Benin.
Hon. Folly Ogedengbe (Owan East I) moved the motion for his suspension.
Ogedengbe said Ebea, who had been on suspension for about one month, was bound to be impeached.
He cited Section 92(2C) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 72, Rule 19 of the Assembly.
A new Deputy Speaker was immediately elected.
He is Hon. Victor Edoror.
He took the oath of office immediately.
The House explained that it opted to hold its sitting at the old chamber owing to the ongoing renovation works in its new chambers at the Anthony Enahoro Assembly Complex.
The chamber was reportedly damaged when Ebea and some of his aides forcefully entered the assembly.
Ebea, however, described his impeachment as “executive impunity and madness”.
