Dambazau seeks synergy between government institutions

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Lt Gen (rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, has emphasised the need for the agencies under the supervision of his Ministry to have a cordial relationship so as to leverage on developments and innovations that will provide adequate security services to Nigerians.
Gen. Dambazau made the call recently when the Acting IGP, Mohammed Adamu, paid him a courtesy call at his office in Abuja.
He stressed that the numerous security challenges bedevilling the country demanded collaboration among government institutions.
The minister who commended the new Police boss for recognising the significance of the supervisory mandate of the ministry on the police and all the paramilitary agencies, especially in ensuring national security explained how difficult it was working with the immediate past Inspector General of Police, which invariably affected the operations of the Police Force.
He said that out of the over twenty five memorandums the ministry presented to the Federal Executive Council in the last three years, there was no representation of the police except those captured by the Police Academy due to their self-acclaimed independence.
While assuring the new police boss of the Ministry’s support, Gen. Dambazau cautioned him thus: “You need a parent ministry to represent you at FEC. A ministry that will push your concerns; the gap must be closed”.
The Minister said that he was impressed with the step taken by the new police boss to mend the absolute severance of relationship between the police and the Ministry of Interior. “I think we need to work together particularly with the kind of internal security challenges we are experiencing in this country.
Gen. Dambazau who appreciated the idea of community policing assures the police further that the Ministry will not interfere with the implementation of police duties but only provide policies that will guide the operations of the Force.
He said: “Ours stops at making policies but for implementation it is absolutely yours. We will not interfere in that. I am quite impressed that you came in with a positive mindset to strengthen this relationship.”
Earlier, the Acting Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu had declared his resolve to work with the Ministry of Interior. He said that keying into its policy programmes will help the Police Force surmount challenges associated with its mandates.
The Acting IGP who led a team of top Police Officers to what he termed, “my first courtesy visit” on the Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd) said that the Nigerian Police under his saddle have retraced its steps, adding “I am aware that all policy issues concerning the NPF emanates from this ministry”.

He pleaded with the minister to give the Police the opportunity to be involved in the ministry’s activities.
He said: “If we have not been cooperating the way we should, we are retracing our steps now.”
