The Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, has visited Team Nigeria at the Olympic Games Village in Rio.
Dalung charged the athletes to be of good behaviour and shun acts capable of disgracing the country.
He urged them to work hard towards achieving their set goals at the games, promising that their needs, which include camp allowances, will be duly paid before the end of the Games.
He said: “I charge you on behalf of our President Muhammadu Buhari to be good ambassadors of our great country Nigeria and desist from acts that will ridicule the nation.
“Obey camp rules and shun the temptation to use drugs for performance enhancement.
“It is better for you to come back with a good name than a stained medal.
“We urge you to embrace fair play, make friends and build bridges across the world with your good behaviour.
“Our President will be looking out for you and back home you can be rest assured of the home support from your numerous fans.
“I wish you well as you begin the quest for medals and honors at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. God bless Nigeria.”
The athletes were in high spirit following the National U-23 team’s 5-4 victory over Japan in their opening game.
They however pledged to work hard as they are aiming to win medals in their various sports.
