Controversy as Gov Jang relocates seat of powers to Du

Baring last minute change, Plateau state governor Jonah Jang is expected this Friday to move the seat of power from the main Government House Ray field, Jos and the Government Lodge and office in Jishe to the Little Ray field, in his home town- Du in Jos South local government of Plateau state.

The Governor, had last week Wednesday during the state executive council meeting officially announced that with the intended evacuation of the old Benue/Plateau State Government House and an alternative office he has been using for sometime now,  the edifice will be handed over to the Chairman Traditional Council of Chiefs, the Gbong Gwom of Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba.

However, the moves have since form a source of concern among citizens of the state who have been attacking themselves even on social media trading counter claims and accusations thereby portraying the governor as a tribalistic Governor Plateau People have ever produced.

The story has it that, the government spent well over N6 billion to renovate the edifice in question and the sudden intention to hand it over to traditional rulers forms the grouse and eyebrow many are raising.

They claim that Governor Jang reneges on his earlier agreement to the people of the state that after renovating the Government Lodge Jishe, it will be meant for usage as the Deputy Governor’s office but such is not done.

At the last week’s State Executive Council meeting, the governor said the Plateau State Governors Lodge and office at Jishe would henceforth become the Palace of the Gbong Gwom Jos and the secretariat of the state’s traditional rulers.

With the relinquishing the office, government functionary would be moved to the newly constructed Government House at Little Ray field in Jos South Local Government Area, which the state government said will be commissioned on September 5 this year.

The allegation trading the circumstances at hand is that the traditional ruler the government is handling the edifice to, having coming from the Berom Nation with the Governor, confirms the  earlier blames that most appointments during the Jang’s tenure goes to Berom.

The palace of the Gbong Gwom Jos has been in the central city of the state capital as long as when the state exists, and considering the believes associated with traditional stools, many have condemn the development.

Pointing the fact, that traditional stools serve as shrines according to each tribal believes, indicating that the movement of the palace to another destination will require sacrificial processes.

They people also express worries that why should the governor spend the state resources and later turned it to a particular tribe.

The state Commissioner of Information and Communication, Barrister Olivia Dazyem, told reporters last that Jang had in 2011 spent over N444,103.21 million, for the renovation of the edifice in question, but was later reviewed to N9,666,765,911.53 due to additional works.
