Chief Magistrate Adedamola Albert Paul led a delegation of the Committee of Cell Visitation to the Zone 2 Command cell on Tuesday May 25, 2021.
He was accompanied by Mr. Ifeanyi Okeke from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and Mrs. Grace Adenubi from the Legal Aid Council.
The delegation visited the cell in company of the O/C Legal, Zone 2 Command, CSP Paul Idenyen, where they met only one armed robbery suspect on detention.
The suspect, when interviewed, confirmed that he was told his offence, was duly cautioned before he volunteered his statement and was subsequently detained.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu, who was on routine check to the cell in company with other senior officers in the command, met the delegation in the cell.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2 Command headquarters, Onikan Lagos, DSP Hauwa Idris Adamu, said in a statement that the delegation later visited the AIG in his office, where they applauded the zone for keeping the cell very neat and well ventilated. They also commended the AIG for professionalism in the discharge of duty.
In his response, the AIG commended the Committee of Cell Visitation, which he addressed as a critical partner in the administration of criminal justice, and reiterated the commitment to respect the rule of law and human rights by officers and men of the zone.
