The Niger State Government has inaugurated two judicial commissions of inquiry to investigate the clashes that occurred in three Local Government Areas of the state.
Governor Sani Bello, who inaugurated the committee on Thursday in Minna, said the outcomes of the commissions would be a defining one for the state in the future.
Bello assured the commissions of government’s support, adding that government would not interfere in the affairs of the two panels in order not to jeopardise their findings.
Bello explained that the panels would investigate the immediate and remote causes of the clashes and give recommendations to prevent re-occurrences within eight weeks.
He said: “All we just want to find out is the truth of what transpired so that we will prevent it from happening again in the future.
“Government will not interfere in any way in your investigations or inquiries.
“If I have any issue to clarify, I will discuss it with you directly.”
The Mallam Mohammed Mohammed-led panel is to investigate the military/Gbagyi clash in Kpadina and environs in Bosso Local Government Area, where 12 soldiers and seven civilians were killed.
The Alhaji Abdullahi Mikail-led panel will investigate the causes of the civil disturbances that occurred in May in Pandogari, Lamba and Baekuta in Rafi, Paikoro and Bosso Local Government Areas.
