The Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, could not be accredited through the use of the card reader at his polling booth in Afao Ekiti as the card could not identify his finger.
Fayose was, however, accredited manually.
The governor, who was accredited at 12.02pm at Afao Ekiti. said he could not explain the reason for the apathy in the exercise.
He appealed to the people to come out to vote.
Also at Ward 2 in Otun Ekiti, there was apprehension in the area due to the malfunction of the card reader in the area.
At Ogotun Ekiti, reports indicated that card readers deployed in the area did not function, hence no accreditation.
At Unit 003 Eyelori compound in Iyin Ekiti, a voter, Adewumi Alade, said it took the card reader less than two minutes to accredit him.
Alade, however, said the turn out was not encouraging.
He said: “The situation is calm here.
“No challenges, no lapses, no security challenge.”
Alade said the INEC officials arrived before 7.30am.
The agent of the APC at the unit, Okafor Chinedu, also commended the exercise.
Chinedu however said “there is low turnout compared to presidential election.”
In some polling booths, however, accreditation had ended before 12pm.
The candidate of the Labour Party in the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti State, Hon. Michael Bamidele, who was accredited at the unit, said it took him less than two minutes to be accredited.
While commending the peaceful conduct of the exercise, Bamidele said phone calls from the field revealed no negative complaint, adding that he was not expecting any problem.
He attributed the low turnout to the “political undercurrent” in the state and that the state does not have governorship election.
At Balogun Unit 002, a former Governor in the state, Chief Niyi Adebayo, attributed the low turnout to holding the presidential election first.
Adebayo said the presidential election was more important to the people in Ekiti State since there is no governorship election in the state.
