No fewer than 173 teachers have been killed by members of dreaded sect, Boko Haram, since the insurgency across the country started.
This disclosure was made by the Chairman of the Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Musa Abubakar.
Abubakar, who disclosed this to the Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, when members of the NUT protesting the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, stopped over at the Government House, Ilorin, said the abduction was an assault on humanity and the teaching profession.
According to the Comrade, it was painful that the school system has suffered the worst attack by the Boko Haram insurgents as teachers and students alike are under attack.
He appreciated the efforts of the international community to save the girls from the clutches of the insurgents.
Addressing the protesters, Ahmed described the search for the Chibok girls as an uncommon challenge that requires collective efforts to resolve.
Ahmed added that Nigerians must bury their differences in order to overcome the challenges of insecurity in parts of the country.
The governor assured the protesters that the Federal Government was not resting on its oars to find the missing Chibok schoolgirls.
