Appeal Court reserves judgement in Delta governorship poll

The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City, Edo State on Thursday reserved judgement in the appeal challenging the judgement of the Delta State governorship election petitions tribunal, which in October declared Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of the Peoples Democratic Party as the validly elected governor of the state.

The appeal was filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the election, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, who expressed displeasure over the judgement of the Tribunal.

The tribunal had on October 26 ruled in favour of Okowa, the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission, which declared the results of the April, 11, 2015 election.

The Court of Appeal on Thursday adopted the final addresses of the parties in the case before adjourning indefinitely.

The Chairman of the new five-man panel of judges, Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, said the date of the judgement will be communicated to the parties.

Abba-Aji also promised that justice will be done.

The initial five-man panel that started sitting on the case was disbanded over complaints of bias.
