Apo Six: Prosecuted Officer decorated with CP rank by IGP

One of the senior police officers tried over the killing of five Igbo traders and a lady in Apo area of Abuja, Ibrahim Danjuma, was on Wednesday decorated with his new rank of Commissioner of Police by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
Popularly known as the Apo Six, the traders and the lady were shot dead on their way from a night club at a police checkpoint and labelled as armed robbers.
Those killed were Ifeanyi Ozor, Chinedu Meniru, Isaac Ekene, Paulinus Ogbonna, Anthony Nwokike and Augustina Arebu.
Danjuma, then a Deputy Commissioner of Police, was pronounced not guilty by the court in October 2017.
But this was after a judicial commission of enquiry set up by former President Olusegun Obasanjo had found him and others guilty.
Those indicted by the panel apart from Danjuma were Othman Abdulsalami, Nicholas Zakaria, Ezekiel Acheneje, Baba Emmanuel and Sadiq Salami.
While Abdulsalami is at large, Danjuma, Zakariah and Salami were discharged and acquitted by Justice Ishaq Bello of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
Condemned to death were Baba and Acheneje.
The decision of the Police Service Commission to reinstate Danjuma and later promote him alongside 15 others to the rank of CP is the subject of a probe by the Senate.
However, on Wednesday, Ibrahim decorated Danjuma with his new rank.
