APGA candidate hope for credible elections in Abia

The All Progressives Grand Alliance governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, said on Sunday that innovations by the Independent National Electoral Commission would make rigging difficult in the February general elections.
Otti said this in an interview with newsmen in Isialangwa North Local Government Area of the state.
He said that the introduction of the biometric card reader by INEC would make it difficult for anybody to rig the elections.
He expressed the hope that votes would count in the general elections and urged the electorate to turnout enmasse for the exercise.
Otti attributed the voter apathy that usually characterised past elections in the country to rigging.
He said: “A lot of people are disillusioned about election in Nigeria because votes did not count, but election results were written.
“But this time, votes must count and results announced at the polling booths.”
Otti said he had been mobilising the electorate to go and collect their permanent voter cards in order to be able to exercise their franchise and vote for him during the governorship polls.
The APGA governorship flag bearer also expressed the hope that the party had the capacity to deliver him.
He said the party had the structure and also enjoyed great acceptance at the grassroots.
He expressed the confidence that APGA would repeat in Abia State the feat it recorded in the elections of Governors Willy Obiano in Anambra State and Rochas Okorocha in Imo State.
Otti decried the level of infrastructure decay in the state, citing the poor state of roads, hospitals and the lack of social amenities.
According to him: “Anybody who loves Abia and detests the level of decay and underdevelopment will vote for me.
“A lot of people are not happy with the situation in the state.”
The former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Bank Plc said that he decided to join the governorship race to redeem the state and its people from maladministration, deprivation and underdevelopment.
“I entered the governorship race not as a politician but my interest is to bring the people out of the scourge of poverty, lack and want,” he said.
Oti promised to provide quality education for the youth in order to equip them to compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.
He said that if elected, “I will teach the youth how to fish rather than giving them fish”.
