The Forum of Elders, Leaders and Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta North Senatorial District is angry over the non-appointment of a native of the zone as commissioner representing the state on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
The group is a wing of the body being led by foremost Ijaw leader and First Republic Minister of Information, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark.
It wondered why one of their own sons or daughters has not been considered since the interventionist agency was inaugurated years back.
The Chairman of the Forum in Delta North, Pastor Anthony Enuenwosu, decried in Asaba, the state capital, what was termed the failure of government to equitably distribute appointments among the three senatorial districts in the state.
While Enuenwosu stressed the need to consider the district in the next appointment on the ground that Delta North Senatorial District has deposit of natural endowment, which is a prerequisite for appointment, he said the call became imperative as it would go a long way in promoting the unity of the state, maintaining equity, fairness and justice, which are the parameters for breeding unity in any society.
He said: “Despite the fact that Ndokwa nation has the largest gas reserve in West Africa, nobody from Delta North has been appointed into the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.”
While insisting that no senatorial district can win elections alone in the state, the forum chairman appealed to Delta south and central senatorial districts to support the agitation by Delta North to produce the next governor in 2015.
The Secretary of the Forum, M.I. Mokwunye, lauded Clark for his inspiring leadership, adding that the forum was to help deepen understanding among political stakeholders in the state.
